Macadamia Oil:
Macadamia oil is a clear, light-yellow liquid that comes from pressed macadamia nuts.
People often overlook macadamia oil for
cooking, but it is a healthful source of unsaturated fats, vitamin E, Omega 3
& 6 and antioxidants.
Nutrients:
Macadamia oil is rich in nutrients, including
healthful fatty acids and potassium. Potassium's main role in
the body is to help maintain
normal levels of fluid inside our cells. Potassium also helps muscles to
contract and supports normal blood pressure.
Monounsaturated fat:
It has high levels of monounsaturated fat. It
may sound bad to have high levels of fat, but it is the type of fat that
matters. These types of fats (monounsaturated) actually help to lower the bad type of cholesterol
(saturated) which, in turn, can reduce a person’s risk of heart attack and stroke.
The
high concentration of monounsaturated fats (oleic acid) is considered the gold
standard for helping to reduce
inflammation.
Omega 3 & 6:
Macadamia
oil is also very high in natural antioxidants and contains Omega 3 and Omega 6, which can have a powerful
effect on the overall health of the body.
Antioxidants:
Macadamia oil is a source of antioxidants.
A diet high in antioxidants
may reduce the risk of many
diseases (including heart disease and certain cancers).
Antioxidants scavenge free radicals from the body cells and prevent or reduce
the damage caused by oxidation. Free radicals in the body can
cause oxidative stress.
This may play a role in aging and the development
of a number of diseases, including cancer. Consuming antioxidants, however, may help counter these
free radicals.
Oleic acid:
Macadamia oil is also rich in oleic acid, an
unsaturated fatty acid that has antioxidant properties. Oleic acid supplements
may help protect against the effects of oxidative stress and may have a beneficial effect on cancer and
inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
Macadamia
nuts are one of the only food sources that contain palmitoleic acid which is
known to help speed up fat metabolism and reduce the body's ability to store
fat which ultimately means increased weight loss. Macadamia nuts are also known to help rejuvenate the liver and
discourage the craving for alcohol.
Vitamin E:
Macadamia oil also contains substances called
tocotrienols, which are part of the vitamin E family. Research indicates that vitamin E
and tocotrienols are potent antioxidants that may protect against cancer and a
variety of other health conditions, including cardiovascular and neurological
diseases.
Macadamia
nut oil contains up to four times as much vitamin E than olive oil.
Cooking:
With a higher smoke point than some other
oils, such as olive oil, it is perfect for sautéing, roasting, and grilling.
The
smoke point of oil is the temperature at which it stops shimmering and starts
smoking. The smoke point is also called the burning point of oil. Smoking is a sign that your oil is
breaking down. When oils break down, they can release chemicals that give food
an undesirable burnt or bitter flavour, as well as free radicals that can harm
the body. Before using any oil, make sure that its smoke point can handle the
cooking method you plan to use.
Its mild flavour also makes macadamia oil a
good choice for baked goods or as an appropriate base for salad dressings and
marinades.
Health
benefits:
Weightloss:
Nut consumption has been linked to a lower
risk of obesity.
The fat present in macadamia oil is monounsaturated
which promote weight loss. Macadamia
nuts are enriched in palmitoleic acid. Palmitoleic acid increases fat
metabolism and reduces fat storage.
Anti inflammatory:
Macadamia oil holds many powerful anti-inflammatory
properties, with high levels of the ANTI-inflammatory Omega
3 fatty acids, as well as significant amounts of a naturally occurring
antioxidant.
Heart health & Cholestorol:
The
unsaturated fat in macadamia nuts could help tamp down high blood pressure, bad cholesterol, and high blood sugar.
Consuming macadamia oil support heart health.
LDL cholesterol (the bad type) contributes to
plaque in the arteries
HDL cholesterol (the good type), carries the
LDL type back to the liver, where it is broken down and passed through the
body. This lowers your bad cholesterol and results in less chance of heart
disease or stroke.
Macadamias
contain no cholesterol.
Macadamias contain no trans fatty acids
Diabetes:
Macadamia
nuts have shown in clinical trials that they can reduce insulin resistance and
are part of a healthy diet that can
improve your diabetes control or reduce your risk of developing diabetes.
These
nuts are low in carbs and sugar and have a moderate fiber content. This
combination makes them unlikely to
spike your blood sugar levels, which may be especially beneficial for
people with diabetes.
Macadamia nuts have a very low glycaemic index (GI) due
to the small amounts of carbohydrate, heart-healthy monounsaturated fat,
protein and dietary fibre they contain.
GI is
the measure of how quickly a food can raise your blood glucose levels. High GI
is considered to be over 70. The GI of macadamias is only 10.
Macadamia nuts are an ideal
food for those with diabetes or raised blood glucose levels.
Beauty:
Skin:
The vitamin E present in macadamia oil has
many properties that may benefit a person’s skin. For example, it absorbs
easily, making it a good moisturizer for very dry skin.
Macadamia nut seed oil is a very capable anti-aging
ingredient, full of antioxidants, essential fatty
acids, and other nutrients to nourish, hydrate, and protect the skin.
The phenolic compounds also give macadamia nut oil
its antibacterial and antifungal properties. This not
only makes it essential for a healthy skincare regimen but also drastically
increases the shelf life of the oil itself, making it the perfect base
ingredient for skincare products.23 Aug
Hair:
Many people use pure macadamia oil to strengthen and condition their hair.
